Rust Bucket

Photobucket

Yesterday ended up being a little of a theme (cars), but not intentionally. I liked this shot because of the cars' utter state of hopelessness. The rust of the gate and the car, then of course the snow and its location.

Anyone know the make of the car?

Texaco

I liked this antiquated Americana sign, actually, taken in the same location as rust bucket, at roughly the same settings.
The picture didn't really do too much for me until I added a slight edge burn, this caused everything to pop, and look in place for me.

Accurate Vanity Plate

This one was a hoot! I saw this car outside the store and the icicles on this Arizona plate caused a giggle. Then, upon getting down to shoot this, the Mt Dew added an over the top touch-Its all the more ironic becuase the drivers are Apostolic aquaintences- and the back license plate were MICHIGAN! (don't worry you legal beagles-they were fully registered)

Remember your flash card..and extra batteries.

Thats all. Just a reminder that the perfect photo op will be there and its important to have both. I now speak from expirience. :S

The Shack

Photobucket

I tinkered with this image quite a bit. Would have liked to add a graduated warming filter, to accentuate the warmth of the sun but keep the cool of the snow in the field, and of course a crisper image would be nice...This is what etude is all about though!

Love this shot. Pink nose on pink snowsuit. I know the exposure is different from screen to screen, this may have an underexposed look, but there were no dark shadows and no black, even the eyelashes are dark brown, so on my screen the exposure looks good, I like the softness of this look.

Hummingbird 2008

Photobucket

I was excited all day, to shoot the 'Lunar Event of 2009', I got my Kodak, yes kodak but hey, with the moon 14% larger it would have worked on superzoom, extra batteries and jimmied up a tripod. Well, it was so overcast, it took me a 10 minute drive just to locate the moon in the sky. You couldn't even see its light. So..I dredged up a hummingbird picture from this summer, did a little cropping, because, hummingbirds are mightly flighty and small, and decided to post that. Oh well..dark winter nights are not renoun photographic subjects. So here's another little taste of summer.

PS. A memo to those who don't backup save photos...computers can crash beyond repair, which is what happened to the computer I'm using tonight. I had a stunning winter photo on it that I'd hope to use at some point. Its long gone. So the point is every shot is in a way a once in a lifetime shot, but it's only half yours if you get it from camera to computer.
Photobucket

Shot from earlier this winter, I have played with this image before, and can't shake the feeling of its timelessness. If I had photoshop, I would like to change the design on the child's snowpants, to make it look older, and I'd add a gray wooden frame, but for now, I like the blurred edges.
I like that the shutter speed was fast enough to capture the snow, and its contrast against the burgundy jacket, I wouldn't go to grayscale for this reason.

Pigeons are rare in rural MN, but here they are huddled at the peak of a church. They are all facing the same way, and when I drove around to the other side of the church, about a quarter of the roof was covered with them.

I'm realizing that modern photography is as much computer technology as it is in the field work. Expirimenting, still no camera, but having a little fun anyway.
